Tuesday Cubs Lough Dan 2011 Hostel

Tuesday night Cubs decided that there was no better way to prepare for Christmas than to get away from it all and head up to Lough Dan.  10 Cubs,  4 Ventures and 4 leaders were blessed with fantastic December weather. ( cold and crisp but no rain, wind or even the dreaded snow) .

After the usual little sleep on the Friday Night, the Cubs were all set for out ‘Air Activities’ themed weekend.  We had great fun constructing parachutes and then trying them out from the deck.  We experimented on rocket launching ( firing corks from bottles ) using vinegar and Baking Soda – to varying success.

We were joined by Ben and Barry  for an afternoon of ‘Crate Climbing’ and Archery.  The excitement of falling off a high stack of crates and swinging in the air is a must for all.  After checking that we didn’t leave anyone hanging up the tree we moved on to Archery. Thankfully no stray animals happened to pass by as the sharpshooters were taking aim on the archery range.

To progress the  Air Activities Badge of the One Programme we had a detailed Q&A session with the Cubs and once we do a session on  Kite Construction in the New Year, all of the cubs on the weekend away will have achieved a level 2 Air Activities Badge in the Adventure Skills.

An action packed weekend was balanced with plenty of ‘down time’.  We had 2 movie nights and enjoyed ‘Percy Jackson and the Lightening Thief’ and Gulliver’s Travels’.
